Zabriskie takes 11th stage in Spain

A lone attack by American David Zabriskie was rewarded with victory on the 165.8km 11th stage of the Tour of Spain from San Vicente del Raspeig to Caravaca de la Cruz today.

Despite a furious chase by the peloton close to the finish, Zabriskie, who had gone it alone after just three kilometres of the stage, managed to stay in front and take the biggest win of his career.

Italy's Fassa Bortolo rider Alessandro Pettachi was second, while Cofidis's Australian rider Stuart O'Grady finished third.

Zabriskie's US Postal team mate and compatriot Floyd Landis retained the overall lead.

Spain's Alejandro Valverde, who was second overall just nine second behind Landis at the start of the 11th stage, had a bad fall early on and suffered several minor injuries but finished the stage and will have Wednesday's rest day to recover.
