Spaniard Aitor Gonzalez of the Fassa Bortolo team won the stage 14 of the Tour de France held over 192.5km from Carcassonne to Nimes on Sunday. French rider
Thomas Voeckler, of La Boulangere, held on to the overall leader's yellow jersey.
Gonzalez, 29, the winner of the Tour of Spain in 2002 when he rode for the Kelme tream, escaped from a 10-man group with less than 6km to ride on the mainly flat stage.
The Spaniard, who has been mediocre for his Italian team since joining last year, hands Fassa Bortolo their third stage win on the Tour after those of Fabain Cancellara in the prologue and Filippo Tosatto on the seventh stage from Chateaubriant to St Brieuc.
Lance Armstrong, who is bidding for a record sixth Tour victory, is 22 seconds behind Voeckler.
Ireland's Mark Scanlon finished in 91st place, 14 minutes and 12 seconds behind the Spanish winner and the Sligo man is now in 98th position overall, one hour 20 minutes and 51 seconds behind the man in the yellow jersey.
