Rumsas tests negative again

The Lithuanian government's sports department claims that Tour de France cyclist Raimondas Rumsas, whose wife Edita has been detained in a doping inquiry in France, has tested negative on an independent doping test. The Lampre rider came third in the French race, but his surprise finish was marred by his wife being arrested while transporting a carload of doping substances from Chamonix, France to Italy.

The Lithuanian took an independent doping test in the Latvian capital Riga last week in an attempt to prove the innocence of his wife. Rumsas, who also tested negative twice during the Tour, claims the banned products were intended for his ill mother-in-law. Yesterday, a French judge investigating the case of Rumsas' wife, rejected a request for her release.
