Rumsas suspended after police swoop

Italian cycling team Lampre-Daikin have suspended rider Raimondas Rumsas from racing after French police found drugs in his wife's car at the end of the Tour de France in Paris on Sunday night. Third-placed Rumsas's wife Edite was stopped by police at the French border in Chamonix after suspicious drugs were found in her car and the press officer of the team was searched and questioned for five hours in Paris on Sunday evening.

The team's statement on Monday said: "The Lampre-Daikin team has immediately suspended Raimondas Rumsas from any sporting activity. If the rider is eventually found to be responsible, the Lampre-Daikin team will immediately sack him."

Rumsas, from Lithuania, finished third behind American Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France which ended in Paris on Sunday.
