Frenchman Christophe Moreau and Spaniard Carlos Sastre, seen fighting in the penultimate climb of the 12th stage of the Tour de France yesterday, have been handed fines and time penalties. Race officials said the two had faced exclusion from the Tour for punching but after watching television replays, they decided against kicking them out of the race.
Credit Agricole leader Moreau, who was 38th overall, more than 20 minutes behind American Lance Armstrong, was given a two-minute penalty while Sastre, 11th overall, 10 minutes 41 seconds adrift, received a 20-second penalty.
Earlier, Frenchman Jacky Durand was thrown out of the Tour after being seen holding on to a team car during a mountain climb.
