German Thomas Liese has failed in his attempt to break Chris Boardman's one-hour world track record. Liese was already 650 metres behind Boardman's mark after 30 minutes. The 33-year-old gave up after 37 minutes and 20 seconds.
British rider Boardman set the record by covering 49.441km last year in Manchester. Liese had rated his chances of beating Boardman's record as 50/50. The Team Nuernberger rider only returned to professional cycling last year following a 12-year break.
