Lisbon victory for Freire

Spain's Oscar Freire landed the second world road race championship of his career with victory in Lisbon earlier today. Freire, who also won the road race gold in 1999, crossed the line with a provisional time of six hours, seven minutes and 20 seconds after completing the 254.1Km Monsanto course.

Paulo Bettini of Italy took the silver medal with Slovenian Andrej Hauptman taking the bronze.
