Ireland's Mark Scanlon has performed below expectations in the under 23's time trial at the World Cycling Championships in Lisbon today. Scanlon, who won the junior road race championship three years ago, finished over three minutes down in 23rd place. The gold medal went to American rider Danny Pate while the other Irish rider Denis Lynch finished in 41st.
Scanlon tackles his speciality, the road race, on Friday.
