Dope tests on a 'B' sample provided by Danish cyclist Bo Hamburger have confirmed the use of the performance-enhancing drug EPO, national Ritzau news agency reported on Monday. Hamburger was suspended on May 10 by Denmark's CSC-World Online team after tests on the 'A' sample proved positive.
The samples, analysed in a laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland and involving a new method of drug detection, were taken after Hamburger rode in a Belgian classic, the Fleche-Wallonne, on April 18. His team, which is managed by compatriot Bjarne Riis and also includes France's Laurent Jalabert, has secured a wild card for this year's Tour de France, won by Riis in 1996.
