Ireland have made a winning start to Women's T20 World Cup qualification thanks to a 41-run victory over Papua New Guinea in Nepal.

The Irish side batted first after winning the toss in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, with captain Gaby Lewis helping them to a fast start.

She struck 42 off 25 balls, before Orla Prendergast took charge with a total of 56 as Ireland eventually finished with a total of 146 for six.

All-rounder Prendergast, who was awarded Player of the Match, also made her mark when it was the turn of the Irish to bowl. It was not until her third over that Papua New Guinea's batters scored a run off her with the bat as Ireland restricted them to 105-6 from their 20 overs.
