Bangladesh seize initiative against Ireland in second Test

Bangladesh had the better of the opening day of the second Test against Ireland in Mirpur.

After choosing to bat first, the hosts reached 292 for four at stumps, with Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten on 99 and chasing a 13th Test century.

Mominul Haque also scored a half-century for Bangladesh, while Andy McBrine took all four wickets to fall for Ireland, who featured Test debutants Stephen Doheny and Gavin Hoey.

Three of McBrine's wickets came in the opening session to leave Bangladesh on 95 for three, but the hosts hit back well, with Rahim and Litton Das’ (47 not out) partnership standing at 90.

Ireland were thrashed by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test by Bangladesh in Sylhet.

Three T20 internationals will follow the conclusion of the Test series.
