Ireland's losing run at the Women’s World Cup qualifier stretched to a third game as Bangladesh edged a nervy finish in Lahore.

A hat-trick of losses means Ireland have no realistic route to the tournament, pointless with two to play and anchored by a negative net run-rate of 0.417.

They posted 235 for eight after winning the toss, with 63 from Laura Delany and Orla Prendergast’s 41 doing much of the work in the middle order.

Leg-spinner Rabeya Khan claimed figures of three for 39 to undermine Irish hopes of going further.

Prendergast then followed up with the ball, dismissing both openers as Bangladesh laboured and lost two wickets for just two runs inside the opening five overs.

Captain Nigar Sultana made 51 to stabilise the chase but Ireland stayed competitive as the breakthroughs kept coming.

With 38 runs needed off the last five overs and just two wickets in hand, a nailbiting conclusion seemed certain until Ritu Moni (67no) unleashed a late barrage of boundaries, including the match-winning six off Cara Murray to seal the points with eight balls to spare.
