Ireland will host England, Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka in the ICC Women's Championship, while the squad will travel to play Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the West Indies over the four-year cycle of the tournament, which starts next month.

The three-match 50-over ties form the qualification route to the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2025.

The World Cup host country, which has yet to be announced, along with the top five sides in the championship standings will earn direct entry, while the two remaining spots will be identified through a global qualifier.

The first fixtures for Ireland in the competition take place in a three-match one-day international series against South Africa from 11-17 June at Clontarf Cricket Club.

The ODI series will be preceded by a three-match T20 series from 3-8 June at Pembroke Cricket Club.

A 14-player squad has been named for the clashes against South Africa, but owing to exams head coach Ed Joyce is without eight of his 20 performance squad players.

Four players are in line for their international debuts, in the form of Alana Dalzell, Sarah Forbes, Kate McEvoy and New Zealand-born Arlene Kelly.

Kelly, an Irish passport holder, recently moved to Ireland having previously played club cricket for Auckland Harriers and Kent. During her time here she will play with Malahide.

Regular captain Laura Delany is injured so Gaby Lewis is in line to take the armband for the upcoming internationals.

Reacting to the draw, Delany said: "We're really looking forward to the championship starting. To have South Africa here on home soil first up is a brilliant opportunity for us.

"We know it'll be a bit of a challenge, but I think since the introduction of the full-time contracts it's allowed us to have more contact time with our coaches Glenn (Querl) and Ed, but also to spend more time going through video footage and looking at their strengths and weaknesses.

"We know South Africa are a quality side, but we're just itching to get out there now."

Ireland squad: Gaby Lewis (captain), Alana Dalzell, Rachel Delaney, Georgina Dempsey, Sarah Forbes, Shauna Kavanagh, Arlene Kelly, Sophie MacMahon, Jane Maguire, Kate McEvoy, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Celeste Raack, Mary Waldron.
