Ireland captain Andy Balbrinie rued Wednesday's defeat to Sri Lanka at the T20 World Cup but believes the threat posed by their final Group A opponents Namibia will help focus minds.

Ireland suffered a 70-run loss to Sri Lanka in their second game after making a promising start against the group leaders.

The result leaves Graham Ford's side second in the standings but level on points with Namibia, who they will face in their closing clash on Friday in Sharjah, making it a winner-takes-all match.

With the winning side advancing to the Super 12s stage alongside the Sri Lankans, it makes the equation "simple" for both sides according to Balbirnie, who was speaking in the wake of Wednesday's match.

"When you get (Sri Lanka) out for three it is a bit disappointing that they got away from us," he said at the post-match press conference.

"But they're good players and that's kind of what you expect when you come up against good teams. We maybe could have bowled a bit better to the new men up top but you've got to give them credit.

"But certainly at the halfway stage, we knew if we batted well we'd be there or thereabouts. We couldn't really get going with the bat and it's disappointing but it makes Friday very simple.

"Certainly our attention is turning fully on Friday which pretty much makes it a straight knockout."

Balbrinie said he was under no illusion about how difficult that task against Namibia will be.

"We know their threats and we know they're a good team. They ran us pretty close in the qualifiers a couple of years ago and it's going to be a really good game," he said.

"(It will be) two good teams gunning for a huge prize at the end of it. We'll have a rest day (on Thursday) and come out to Sharjah on Friday and look forward to the challenge."
