The Ireland men's side lost their opening Dafanews t20 international against Zimbabwe in Clontarf by three runs.

Ireland won the toss and put the Zimbabweans in to bat and they restricted the visitors to 117 for 7 off their 20 overs.

The home side however could not get over the line and in the made 114 for 9 in reply losing by three runs with Simi Singh making 28 off 22 deliveries in Ireland forlorn chase.

The game is the first of a five match series with the second game at midday on Sunday also in Clontarf.

Elsewhere, the Ireland women’s side lost to Scotland in their second T20 World Cup qualifier in La Manga in Spain by five wickets.
