Cricket Ireland has introduced Munster Reds as a fourth team to the 50-over Cup format of the men's domestic Inter-Provincial Series.
They will join North West Warriors, Northern Knights and Leinster Lightning in the four-team league which will comprise a two round-robin series.
The 2021 Inter-Provincial Series is set to begin in early May and end in September.
The Inter-Provincial Trophy competition, which is a T20 format, will also include all four teams and will be played out in a series of three-day festivals.
It is part of a revamp which will also see changes made to the squad selection process and the establishment of new performance coaching hubs.
The new squad selection process will see the Chair of National Men's Selectors and National Head Coach collaborate with the provincial head coaches to select a core squad of 12 players for each team.
A new loan system will be put in place for 2021 to cover injuries and exceptional circumstances.
Alongside Dublin's High Performance Centre, performance coaching hubs will be established in Belfast and Bready, Co Tyrone, while Munster's will be based in Dublin, although the Reds team will remain under the management of the Munster Cricket Union.
"The future investment in Munster aims to improve the identification and development of local talent," said Cricket Ireland High Performance Director Richard Holdsworth.
"It is fair to say that current structures were not developing talent at the rate hoped for, so a renewed focus was agreed with Munster Cricket Union and we believe this will provide a boost to Munster-based cricket representation at senior levels in years to come.
"In the meantime, we are giving the next cohort of Munster-based players the best chance to develop via the emerging competition so that we can fast-track local talent into the Munster squad as soon as they are ready."
