A huge travelling support is expected to be in attendance at Lord's for what will be Ireland's third Test match since they were awarded full ICC membership.

England, fresh from winning the World Cup, will provide the opposition over four days as they prepare for the upcoming Ashes series against Australia. Jofra Archer, all-rounder Ben Stokes and batsman Jos Buttler, who all played their part in the win over New Zealand, will be rested.

Eoin Morgan no longer plays Test cricket.

Former Ireland international Niall O'Brien, not surprisingly, is looking forward to the encounter and feels that Ireland "will be quietly confident" when speaking to RTÉ Sport's John Kenny.

"I feel Ireland can go well against an England team that will have rested some of their key personnel.

"That's no surprise after what was a busy period for them.

"The Irish team will be a mixture of a the old guard and a few debutants. Andrew Balbirnie is in great form. Paul Stirling is on his home patch, while Tim Murtagh will be a handful against any team.

"The chance might be there for Ireland to exert some early pressure, so all eyes will be on how we face up against Sam Curran, Stuart Broad and Chris Wokes.

"How do Boyd Rankin, Tim Murtagh and potentially Craig Young, who is back in the squad, bowl to the England top order.

"It's a top order that's under scrutiny, with Jason Roy likely to make his debut. Rory Burns is still searching for some kind of Test career, still finding his feet. Joe Denly is in form for Kent, got a 150 recently but he also is searching for a place on the Test side.

"Can Ireland get two or three early wickets like they did against Pakistan at Malahide a couple of years back to put England under pressure."

O'Brien announced his retirement from Cricket last October and he clearly has no regrets about that decision when pressed on whether he'd like to be involved in this historic Test.

"My stomach is protruding in my shirt, absolutely not," he replied.
