Ireland batsman Niall O'Brien believes the World Cup clash with India will be an opportunity for the side to showcase their ability to a huge audience.

The Irish are closing in on a place in the quarter-finals and know that a point from their last two games will guarantee them a last-right berth.

First up is date with India at Sedden Park on New Zealand's North Island on Tuesday at 1.00am Irish time (follow live blog on www.rte,ie/sport) and it's a match that O'Brien is relishing.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, he said: "It’s always a huge game against India. They have a lot of fans and a big media presence.

"It will be a good chance then to showcase our skills and show the world exactly what we’ve been doing for the last four or five weeks which is playing good, competitive cricket with a smile on our face."

As for making the knockout stages, O'Brien exudes an air of confidence.

"It’s in our hands. We have two games to ensure we qualify. Up to now we’ve played really good cricket and there’s no reason why we can’t play a good 100 overs against India and see how we go.”

After their win over Zimbabwe on Saturday in Hobart, the Irish party have had to make to long journey for the Sedden Park encounter and O'Brien will be hoping to get in to bat against India.

"I was disappointed that I didn't get to bat against Zimbabwe," he added.

"It’s just one of those things. The boys played well and got a huge score for us and that’s the most important thing. I’m sure I’ll get a good chance to bat tomorrow. I have a decent record against India and I’m looking forward to pitting myself against them."

Ireland report no injuries for their fourth game at this World Cup and O'Brien paid tribute to the support staff put together by coach Phil Simmons.

"The support staff have looked after us really well. There has been a lot of down time and we’ve had plenty of time to rest and recover," said O'Brien.

"The games are coming thick and fast so we’ll hopefully keep injury-free and keep the minds fresh so that we can enjoy our cricket."
