Ireland's cricket team trained under lights for the first time at the Woolloongabba Stadium ahead of their second Pool B World Cup match against the United Arab Emirates which gets under way at 3.30am Irish time on Wednesday.

In his pre-match press conference, captain William Porterfield said they had no injury problems in his 15-man squad and a final decision on any team changes from the win over the West Indies last week would not be made until shortly before the game.

Coach Phil Simmons surprisingly played three spinners in the game against the Windies, giving 21-year-old Andy McBrine his World Cup debut.

However the 'Gabba' is usually a hard, bouncy pitch and fast bowlers Peter Chase and Alex Cusack, who was born in Brisbane, may come into the starting 11.

The Irish hold the whip hand over the UAE and haven't lost to Aaqib Javed's side since the 2001 World Cup qualifiers in Toronto, a run that stretches back some 13 games.

The latest renewal was due to have been the second pool game to be played in the Brisbane. However, last Saturday's Australia v Bangladesh tie was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain.

A crowd of around 10,000 is expected at the 'Gabba' on Wednesday - a stadium which has a capacity approaching 38,000.

Ireland's third match in the pool will see them move south to Canberra to take on South Africa at the Manuka Oval on Tuesday 3 March.

There will then follow games against Zimbabwe (Saturday 7 March, Bellerive Oval Hobart), India (Tuesday 10 March, Sneddon Park, Hamilton) and Pakistan (Sunday 15 March, Adelaide Oval, Adelaide)

Ireland will be aiming to finish in the top four in their section in order to qualify for the quarter finals and three wins would be enough to achieve that.
