Tim Murtagh's World Cup place could be in doubt after being ruled out of Ireland's forthcoming tri-series against Scotland and Afghanistan in Dubai.
The 33-year-old pace bowler was named in Phil Simmons' 15-man World Cup squad on Monday, but the Middlesex man sustained a foot injury during Ireland's training session at the ICC Academy in Dubai yesterday.
With the World Cup starting in New Zealand and Australia next month, Murtagh will now return to London where he will undergo a further medical assessment on the injury.
Cricket Ireland have opted not to call-up a replacement for Murtagh, which might suggest that Simmons is confident that his bowler will be on the plane for the opening clash with the West Indies on 16 February.
Ireland's first ODI in the tri-series is against Afghanistan on Saturday.
Saturday 10 January: Afghanistan v Ireland (10am)
Monday 12 January: Ireland v Scotland (10am)
Saturday 17 January: Afghanistan v Ireland (5.30pm)
