Ireland women have been beaten by Pakistan by 14 runs at the Women's World Twenty20 in Sylhet.

Pakistan set a target of 119 from 6 wickets from their 20 overs. Therefore a run a ball from Ireland would have been enough to take victory; however, they came just short with 105.

Isobel Joyce led the way for Ireland with 32, but once she was dismissed wickets fell regularly as the Girls in Green struggled to keep up with the required run rate.

In the end Ireland collapsed from 77 for 3 to 105 all-out, with Clare Shillington’s 19, Elena Tice’s 17 and Eimear Richardson’s 13 the only other scores in double figures.

Ireland finish fifth in their group and will face a ninth/tenth place play-off which is likely to be against the host nation Bangladesh.

Earlier Ireland’s best performance in the field so far in the tournament has restricted Pakistan Women to 119 for 6 from their 20 overs meaning a run-a-ball for Ireland’s batters will be enough to secure the Girls in Green’s first victory in the tournament.
