Ireland have leapfrogged Zimbabwe in the one-day international rankings after their stunning World Cup win over England, moving into the top 10.

The sensational victory in Bangalore last Wednesday earned Ireland, an associate member of the ICC, enough points to overtake Zimbabwe.

Ireland's breakthrough into the top 10 may prove to be hugely significant, with proposals to limit the next World Cup to just 10 teams.

Those proposals have yet to be agreed upon and the qualification method remains unclear, however, Ireland's position will be much strengthened by their status as a top 10 country.

Zimbabwe are a full member of the ICC with Test and one-day international status but are currently inactive in Tests.

Australia remain the top-ranked side, with World Cup joint hosts India in second place. Sri Lanka are up to third place.
