For tipsters out there, Ireland were backed in-running at 400(399-1) on Betfair to claim this improbable victory, while over €3million was traded on England at the basement price of 1.01 (1-100).

IRELAND WIN BY THREE WICKETS AFTER 49.1 OVERS

50th over: Ireland 329-7 Final over - Anderson to bowl.

Ball 1 - VICTORY as Mooney hits the first ball to the ropes. What a shot and what a victory. Records tumbling all over the place as Ireland record yet another World Cup uspset....

49th over: Ireland 325-7 An injured Broad is bowling here. O'Brien on strike - 12 from 12 to win...

Ball 6 - Mooney away for one to stay on strike - 29 from 29 balls for Mooney. Three from the final over to win.

Ball 5 - One run as ball clipped away down the leg side.

Ball 4 - Two runs - how did they run two there?? Just home. 5 from 7. One hit from victory.

Ball 3 - Dot ball - back of length. 7 from 9 to win.

Ball 2 Four for TJ - first ball and he gets a full toss - happy days. Seven from ten deliveries.

Ball 1 - WICKET O'BRIEN RUN OUT 113 Great yorker and O'Brien tries to run two - out on the second run. What a huge innings for O'Brien. But can Trent Johnston and Mooney take Ireland home?

48th over: Ireland 316-6 Anderson back in for some death bowling. Two singles to start. A nice dot balls as Anderson impresses with the ball. Mooney gets away with one and another single. Another single for O'Brien to let Mooney have a big slash at the last ball and not worry about the wicket to keep Kev on strike. Big four for Mooney to leave Ireland within a sniff of a famous win.

47th over: Ireland 308-6 27 from 24 balls for and Ireland win. Here goes, Bresnan back into the attack. Mooney starting to really add to this with a great drive to the boundary.

46th over: Ireland 301-6 Broad starts with a slow yorker and takes a single.Mooney back on strike and needs some positive shots. Another single and Kev back on strike. A controlled shot Kev takes another single. Apparently the hotel bar at Ireland's hotel is called Dublin... now if that's not an omen. Mooney with another boundary as the 300 mark is reached. Single to finish the over as Broad looks to be carrying an injury.

45th over: Ireland 293-6 O'Brien looks disgusted as he only hits a single off the first ball. Two dot balls follow as Mooney looks to score. Great catch from Prior but it was off Mooney's helmet. Another thick edge sees a second boundary for Mooney to finish the over.

44th over: Ireland 288-6 Kevin back on strike and the only weakness in his game is running between the sticks. Likes to watch his shots before starts the run but runs two there and gets back on strike. England look very anxious in the field here. Mooney edges past the keeper for four - great boundary and leaves O'Brien on strike for the next over. That's 40 from 36 balls needed.

43rd over: Ireland 279-6 Taking a bit of time to get Mooney going but grabs a few singles to keep the score ticking along.

42nd over: Ireland 275-6 WICKET Broad into the attack as Ireland look to bag another World Cup upset. It looked like this game was over after twenty overs. Cusack chases back to try and get back but Broad has direct hit to send Cusack back to the pavillion. Cusack sacrificed his wicket there to keep O'Brien in and at least that is something. John Mooney next in and looks to get off the mark. Takes a single and will keep strike for the next over.

41st over: Ireland 272-5 Two singles to start over as O'Brien closes in on fastest World Cup century, which is 66 balls. Cusack hitting some great shots to move to 45. Great batting here by the Irish pair and almost below a run a ball now. And that's a ton up for O'Brien as he runs two to take the standing ovation and gets a chance to show off his peacock-esque haircut. Well played Kevin. Fastest World Cup century off only fifty balls.

40th over: Ireland 263-5 Cusack hits Collingwood for six from the first delivery. One of them every over and that would get them almost home. Good middle of the over from Collingwood but O'Brien smashes straight down the ground to push on to 97.

39th over: Ireland 252-5 Yardy starts with a wide. Cusack and O'Brien still looking to score big - a couple of bt misses and then a caught and bowled chance dropped as Cusack smashes it back at Yardy. Four off the over and England will be relieved with that.

38th over: 248-5 Ireland Collingwood will take a bit of pace off the ball to prevent any more huge hits by O'Brien. O'Brien gets on strike. Takes a neat single and Cusack follows the example. Run rate down to just over six now as Ireland need 82 from 74 balls. O'Brien launches a huge one but mis-hits it and Strauss takes it on the run but spills it and it goes down. Bit let off for Ireland as O'Brien stays in and back on strike.

37th over: Ireland 243-5 Bresnan back into the attack. Big wide after Bresnan hopped it over O'Brien who stepped back looking for another huge one. Big LBW shout by England on Cusack but just nipping down leg by the looks of things. Big hit by O'Brien lucky not to find Yardy on the ropes. WOW another huge hit by O'Brien and the crowd are loving this. A huge hit there by O'Brien it was in the air forever.

36th over: Ireland 229-5 106 needed from 90 balls. A real chance of an upset now. Yardy slows it a bit for the first time in a while but O'Brien finishes the over with a well-struck four.

35th over: Ireland 222-5 Cusack tries to go long but it drop short and safe. Another boundary for O'Brien off the inside edge and nothing lucky about the half-volley that followed for another boundary. And then just to show off he opens up with another six - biggest of the tournament at 102 metres.

34th over: Ireland 205-5 Batting powerplay continues with Bresnan into the attack. Another snakey boundary for O'Brien but will take it. And just to prove he has all the shots in his locker he opens up and smashes a beauty for yet another six. This is an unbelieveable batting display from O'Brien junior.

33rd over: Ireland 192-5 Anderson keeping things tidy now and Ireland struggle to score. England looking much more concentrated in the field now with Strauss diving to stop a boundary. But Kevin won't be tamed and hits his third six and brings up his fifty from only thirty balls faced. The fastest ODI fifty for an Irishman - well played Mr O'Brien.

32nd over: Ireland 183-5 Batting powerplay for Ireland for this over and the batsmen get busy scoring 16 from the over. Great stuff from O'Brien - a little bit lucky with one boundary but some quality shots in there to put a little bit of doubt in the minds of the English boys.

31st over: Ireland 167-5 Jimmy Anderson back in and slows the Irish attack with only one from the over.

30th over Ireland 166-5 No slip in for Broad and Cusack uses the space for four more. That's fifty from 31 balls as this partnership has bedded in very quickly. Another four for Cusack and that's ten more off the over. A nice little burst as Ireland move past 165. If this pair can push past 200 it's game back on again.

29th over Ireland 156-5 Swann in for his last over and will want another wicket before he finished. Will the Irish attack the tempting deliveries. Yes is the answer and Kevin clips another boundary before taking another single to give Cusack the strike. Cusack paddles it down to happily see the back of Swann. 3-47 from ten over for Swann. Good bowling but 22 off his last two overs spoiled his figures.

28th over Ireland 149-5 Broad back with a bit of pace for the England attack. Good bowling from Broad and nearly catches O'Brien with a very good yorker. But then four wides a nice bonus from Ireland as Broad's next yorker turns into a full toss and past the keeper. Kev then seizes on the next ball and flicks the wrists for four more. Eleven off the over, that's three good overs for Ireland in a row.

27th over: Ireland 138-5 Cusack goes on the slight offensive, which is a hard thing to do against a quality bowler like Swann. And big Kev doesn't need much encouragement to start swinging and duly obliges with two big sixes to upset Swann's very tidy figures. Fifteen off that over and a great boost for the Irish.

26th over: Ireland 123-5 Good over for the Irish off Yardy. O'Brien picks up a couple of boundaries hitting to either side of the pitch over the England field. Ten from the over.

25th over Ireland 113-5 WICKET Wilson tries to sweep Swann and goes LBW. Goes for a desperate review and the ball was hitting middle and leg and Wilson walks for three. Cusack next in for Ireland.

24rd over: Ireland 111-4 Yardy in with a bit more spin and limits Ireland to one run. Uphill task getting steeper by the over.

23nd over: Ireland 110-4 WICKET Joyce charges up to Swann's spin and keeps walking as he misses the flight and hears Prior taking the bails off behind him. Joyce was tipping away nice and steady but his run rate wasn't great. Now with two new batsmen at the crease, Ireland have to get a partnership very quickly. O'Brien looking to hit Swann straight away. Second ball goes for four but a bit lucky for O'Brien to see it roll past the keeper and to the ropes.

22st over: Ireland 105-3 Wilson off the mark on his seventh delivery. Another slow over for Ireland and starting to get a bit flat now. Once that rate goes over eight, Ireland will really be up against it. Big hitting Kevin O'Brien likely to come in next and he will need to get his eye in very quickly.

21th over: Ireland 103-3 WICKET O'Brien looks to smash Swann, going down on one knee but misses and the ball carrys on through the stumps. No need to for that big swing as they were picking up plenty on singles and twos from the spin. Gary Wilson next in for his first knock of the tournament. Wilson not looking too comfortable facing Swann straight away but happy to get through the over. Good over from Swann.

20th over: Ireland 102-2 Ireland Good England over bowled by Collingwood.

19th over: Ireland 96-2 Joyce and O'Brien not troubled by Swann but again only four from the over as the required rate edges past 7.5. O'Brien trying some shots here and both players looking to score a bit quicker now.

18th over: Ireland 92-2 Collingwood into the attack to bowl his combination of straight middle paced seamer and cutters. Looking to slow the run rate here. O'Brien takes a ball in the helmet grill trying to play a Dilshan/Morgan style shot over the head. In fairness to O'Brien he had a good laugh at himself afterwards. Good over from Collingwood, only three coming from it.

17th over: Ireland 89-2 Better from Swann to limit Ireland to four runs. The Irish batsmen letting the ball come onto the bat taking a bit of risk out of the shots and probably the best way to play the spin on these wickets. But only picking up singles there.

16th over: Ireland 86-2 Another good over for Ireland as O'Brien and Joyce look to build a decent partnership. Ten off the over including some nice shots from O'Brien. This is probably Ireland's best batting combination so if they are to have any chance, Joyce and O'Brien need to bed in and score some fast runs.

15th over: Ireland 76-2 - Niall O'Brien goes after Swann and hit over long on for six. Should have been caught but a mistimed leap from Anderson and it drops pver the rope.

1404 WICKET Stirling 32 c Pietersen b Bresnan (10th over: Ireland 62-2)

1401 9th over: Ireland 53-1 (target 328, Stirling 28, Joyce 16) Run of singles stopped with a four off the final ball of the over from Stirling.

1358 8th over: Ireland 44-1 (target 328, Stirling 21, Joyce 14) Tim Bresnan is on for Broad with good effect, crowding out the the batsmen for room and bowling with authority.

1355 7th over: Ireland 42-1 (target 328, Stirling 20, Joyce 13) Joyce's shot with sublime delivery cuts off Anderson for four. Anderson gets a warning for running down the wicket after delivering the ball.

1352 6th over: Ireland 32-1 (target 328, Stirling 20, Joyce 8)

1349 5th over: Ireland 26-1 (target 328, Stirling 15, Joyce 7) Joyce drives at Anderson and gets four despite pushing the ball through the air and not far from Strauss's advances.

1344 4th over: Ireland 20-1 (target 328, Stirling 15, Joyce 3) Paul Stirling responds to Broad's first ball with a thick edge to the boundary and lands another four through the legside from the last delivery of the over and 10 runs accrue.

1340 3rd over: Ireland 10-1 (target 328, Stirling 6, Joyce 2) Anderson gets his first maiden of the match off Ed Joyce.

1338 2nd over: Ireland 10-1 (target 328, Stirling 6, Joyce 2)

1336 1st over: Ireland 2-1 (target 328, Stirling 0, Joyce 1)

1334 WICKET Porterfield b Anderson (1st over: Ireland 0-1, target 328) A half-volley outside off-stump. but Porterfield unluckily drags it onto the stumps.

____________________________________________________

50th over: WICKET England 327-8 (Swann not out 9, Bresnan c Johnston b Mooney 4) Swann finishes with a four before Bresnan holes out off the last ball of the innings. England were relatively profligate in the closing stages but the Boys in Green still require 328 for an improbable victory. The players have retired for rounds of curried cucumber sandwiches and lashings of ginger beer. We’ll be back fully refreshed when they are.

1233 49th over: England 318-7 (Bresnan 3, Swann 1) Swann and Bresnan can only accrue a paltry single.

1227 48th over: WICKET England 317-7 (Yardy b Johnston 3) Johnston has just become the first Irish player to take 50 ODI wickets as Yardy falls foul of a sly slow ball.

1223 47th over: England 312-6 (Bresnan 1, Yardy 0)

1219 46th over: WICKET England 312-6 (Collingwood c K O'Brien b Mooney 16) Collingwood’s huge six over long on reaches the roof, but twice isn’t a charm for the Durham stalwart as he’s caught at long on.

1215 45th over: WICKET England 299-5 (Prior b Johnston 6) Prior smashes his second ball for a boundary but is then bowled out by Johnston as his footwork and eye-hand coordination leave something to be desired.

1209 45th over: England 294-4 (Collingwood 3, Prior 4) Prior smashes his second ball for a boundary.

1205 44th over: WICKET England 288-4 (Trott b Mooney 92) Trott adds a four and England avoid a run-out but a mistimed adventurous sees off-stump send flying.

1159 43rd over: WICKET England 278-3 (Bell c Stirling b Mooney 81) The last ball of powerplay claims Ian Bell as a lunging Stirling at midwicket makes a quite superb catch.

1156 42nd over: England 274-2 (Trott 83, Bell 79) Johnston bowls as we approach the end of powerplay.

1152 41st over: England 267-2 (Trott 82, Bell 73) The impressive partnership of Trott and Bell keeps on keeping on with several singles and five wides adding to the England tally.

1147 40th over: England 257-2 (Trott 80, Bell 70) Trott bags the first two boundaries of batting powerplay as things continue to look bleak for Ireland.

1143 39th over: England 241-2 (Trott 69, Bell 65) England enter batting powerplay. Dockrell’s bowling results in five singles and three wides.

1139 38th over: England 233-2 (Trott 69, Bell 65) This match has seen Bell grown in confidence with every over. His lofted sweep yields a four and is supplemented by five singles.

1137 37th over: England 224-2 (Trott 66, Bell 59) Trott reaches a career milestone in joining Pietersen and Viv Richards as the only batsmen to achieve 1000 ODI runs in 21 innings. Bell also bagged a boundary in the over.

1134 36th over: England 215-2 (Trott 62, Bell 54) Rankin and Johnston restrict the auld enemy to four singles.

1130 35th over: England 211-2 (Trott 60, Bell 52) Bell clears midwicket for two to record a half-century as the partnership reaches 100.

1126 34th over: England 205-2 (Trott 58, Bell 48) Rankin can’t stem the tide of fours as Bell bangs another one out.

1122 33rd over: England 198-2 (Trott 57, Bell 43) Trott puts another four on the board as England remain composed and in control.

1118 32nd over: England 189-2 (Trott 52, Bell 39) Ed Joyce almost makes a catch from Bell, before the Englishman and compatriot Trott weigh in with fours.

1114 31st over: England 178-2 (Trott 46, Bell 34) England continue to grind away in Bangalore.

1110 30th over: England 176-2 (Trott 45, Bell 32) Five singles and a six from Bell as he clips over long-off undoes some of Ireland’s good work in recent overs.

1106 29th over: England 165-2 (Trott 43, Bell 24) Stirling's over sees England add another three.

1102 28th over: England 162-2 (Trott 42, Bell 22) Dockrell returns as Ireland concede just three runs.

1057 27th over: England 159-2 (Trott 43, Bell 19) England add a four, a two and a single.

1053 26th over: England 152-2 (Trott 36, Bell 19) Cusack is back on for Mooney, much to the delight of Bell who claim his first boundary of the encounter.

1049 25th over: England 144-2 (Trott 34, Bell 13) Stirling continues to impress with his spin wizardry for Ireland.

1044 24th over: England 143-2 (Trott 34, Bell 12) England rode their luck in a massive way to avoid a run out when Trott displayed zombie-like reactions while Bell was dashing back for a second run. Niall O’Brien blundered badly in not targeting the non-striker's end.

1039 23rd over: England 138-2 (Trott 33, Bell 8) Trott’s outside edge earns England a four as the match enters something of a lull.

1035 22nd over: England 130-2 (Trott 27, Bell 6) Mooney maintains the trend of limiting England to four.

1031 21st over: England 126-2 (Trott 25, Bell 4) The run rate has been reduced and Stirling limits England to four.

1026 20th over: England 122-2 (Trott 23, Bell 2) Ireland give Dockrell a break as Mooney makes a return.

1022 19th over: England 118-2 (Trott 20, Bell 1) Porterfield prevents a single from short midwicket as England add just four from Stirling's over.

1019 18th over: England 114-2 (Trott 17, Bell 0) Ireland's spinners are imposing themselves on England at the moment.

1015 17th over: WICKET England 111-2 (Pietersen c N O'Brien b Stirling 59) KP fails to execute his reverse sweep from Paul Stirling and Niall O'Brien makes the easiest of catches.

1011 16th over: England 110-1 (Pietersen 59, Trott 13) The impressive Dockrell limits England to just three in this over.

1007 15th over: England 107-1 (Pietersen 59, Trott 10) England are hot to Trott with the presence of the new batsman. He contributes two boundaries and KP blasts over midwicket for six as the bowling powerplay draws to a close.

1003 14th over: England 92-1 (Pietersen 53, Trott 1) Jonathan Trott arrives on thescene for England and claims a single.

1001 13th over: WICKET England 91-1 (Strauss b Dockrell 34) Dockrell makes an almost immediate impact. An inept strike from Strauss sees a bottom edge catch the stumps.

0957 13th over: England 89-0 (Strauss 34, Pietersen 52) John Mooney replaces fellow medium-pacer Alex Cusack. An lbw appeal against Strauss never looked like cutting any ice.

0953 12th over: England 85-0 (Strauss 31, Pietersen 51) Spinner George Dockrell enters the fray as Pietersen racks up a 50 from 40 balls. Can the Dublin teenager take advantage of the bowling powerplay?

0950 11th over: England 77-0 (Strauss 29, Pietersen 46) A poor bowl from Cusack is dispatched for a four with the minimum fuss from KP.

0946 10th over: England 72-0 (Strauss 28, Pietersen 42) Pietersen records his first six of the day off a slow Johnston ball as he hammers high over mid-on. He adds two more but Strauss was slow to get back in time and would have been out had the throw caught the stumps.

0942 9th over: England 60-0 (Strauss 27, Pietersen 31) Medium-pacer Alex Cusack is in for Rankin but it fails to precipitate a change in Ireland’s fortunes. Strauss claims a four of his very first ball and Pietersen then finds the boundary.

Fancy a flutter? England are trading at 1.01 (1-100) and 1.02 (1-50) on the betting exchanges, while Ireland hover between 75 (74-1) and 85 (84-1). Gives you a pretty accurate picture of the magnitude of the task facing Phil Simmons’s charges.

0935 8th over: England 50-0 (Strauss 22, Pietersen 26) Ireland limit England to just four singles in the over.

0934 7th over: England 46-0 (Strauss 20, Pietersen 24) Kevin O'Brien slips awkwardly and hurts his knee while fielding, but initial fears over the gravity of the injury seem misplaced. Rankin finishes the over.

0929 6th over: England 40-0 (Strauss 17, Pietersen 23) Strauss and Pietersen claim a single each from Niall O'Brien. Pietersen then dispatches a ball on leg-stump for a four.

0925 5th over: England 34-0 (Strauss 16, Pietersen 18) Strauss claims a rather fortuitous six when his top-edge just clears Dockrell and the rope.

0919 4rd over: England 27-0 (Strauss 10, Pietersen 17) Strauss advances to 10 as he edges a Johnston over for a four.

0914 3rd over: England 22-0 (Strauss 6, Pietersen 16) KP takes a couple of boundaries of Rankin before birthday boy Strauss adds a couple in a strong over for England.

0910 2nd Over: England 11-0 (Strauss 4, Pietersen 7) Trent Johnston bowls and England add four in the over.

0905 1st Over: England 7-0 (Strauss 2, Pietersen 5) Seamer Boyd Rankin opens the bowling. Kevin Pietersen has already made an impressive start.

0859 Anthems over and were into the action. God Save The Queen was preceded by a shaky rendition of Ireland’s Call. Phil Coulter’s anthem continues to polarise people - the very thing it was meant to avoid.

0855 It’s a beautiful day in Bangalore but the atmosphere is decidedly muted.

0850 Ray Houghton knows a thing or two about getting one over on England. He’s getting behind the boys in Bangalore.

0845 Ireland captain William Porterfield is sporting a striking purple hairdo. Nothing to do with his punk sensibilities, but a gesture in support of the Irish Cancer Society’s ‘Shave or Dye 2011’ campaign.

8.30 Toss England have won the toss and captain Andrew Strauss has elected to bat.
