4.45pm - Well the Ireland boys gave it a real go but were just undone by the three Ms - Malinga, Mendis and Muralitharan who slowed the rate right down to see Sri Lanka home.
That's Ireland out of the tournament with one game against Pakistan remaining at the Oval on Monday afternoon.
Over 20 - Wicket 18 needed from the final over - a sniff of a chance for the Irish.
Swing and miss from the first ball...
Nice strike - two off the second delivery
Run out - Cusack gone trying to run a single - should be all over now.
16 from 3 balls - West in to face Malinga...
One from that and now it is beyond the Irish...
Boundary from Mooney - hits back over Malinga's head for four.
One off the last ball as Sri Lanka win by nine runs.
Mooney finishes on 31 not out - a decent knock from a player in form.
IRE 135 for 7
Over 19 - 36 needed from 12 balls - no chance the Irish at this stage. Kulasekara back in and Ireland have to go for broke as Malinga has another one left after this.
Two boundaries for Mooney keep it interesting. 28 needed now off 9 balls.
Two more for Mooney - a six or two would be nice, John.
Settle with a four - great shot by Mooney through the covers.
NO BALL - front foot - so a free hit coming. Only one off the free hit as Mooney thinking about getting back on strike.
IRE 127 for 6
Over 18 - Wicket Wicket Forty needed off 18 balls and Malinga back into attack. Ireland will probably fall just short of the total.
Irish need to be creative here and Mooney flicks one over head but only one run off it.
Trent bowled with the next delivery - a perfect yorker by Malinga smashes through the stumps. TJ gone for nine.
Botha next in and goes first ball for a duck. Straight onto the stumps by Malinga who is now on a hat-trick.
Cusack to face the hat-trick ball and stubs it away for two. Another great delivery from Malinga and still two balls to go.
IRE 109 for 6
Over 17 - Mendis in for his final over as Ireland face uphill struggle. TJ attacks the bowling but only gets a single. Ireland need some quick boundaries.
The T-Bird attacks again and hits high and into the stand for six runs. Eleven off the over - better for the Irish.
IRE 105 for 4
Over 16 Muralitharan's final over as Trent Johnston comes in to bat. A mis-field gives Ireland two. Rate is creeping up towards 12 an over so not looking good for Irish. Murali finishes with great figures of 13 for 1.
IRE 94 for 4
Over 15 - Wicket Wicket - This is going to be close as Ireland need 57 from 36 deliveries. Mendis back in with some spin.
Kevin O'Brien tries to hit big and early but skies it and bows out for a duck. Squeaky bum time for Ireland and the middle order. John Mooney next in.
NOB charges down to attack Mendis and follows his brother back to the dug out. Too easy for Sangakkara to stump his keeping counterpart.
IRE 91 for 4
Over 14 Wicket Kulasekara back in. Ireland need to attack the pace and push the run rate on.
White answers the call and smashes a couple of quick boundaries. Good over for Ireland and White who even tries a Dilshan flick but to no avail.
Spoke too soon as White skies one, which is easily gathered by Sangakkara.
IRE 88 for 2
Over 13 Malinga back in. Ireland have played the pace well so far but can Malinga find his accuracy and break the partnership?
White finding it hard to score as Malinga mixes it up. Good over for Sri Lanka.
IRE 75 for 1
Over 12 - Muralitharan back and White sweeps his first before O'Brien also smashes one off his second delivery. Well stopped on the boundary for a single.
NOB misses a sweep but runs a single despite another LBW appeal.
Five off the over without loss - good over all round.
IRE 72 for 1
Over 11 - Jayasuriya in for a bit more spin as Sri Lanka look to slow Ireland right down.
O'Brien fed up with the defensive stuff and picks his spot beautifully to run three.
White gets in on the act to run two - better from Ireland.
Sangakkara appeals a stumping off the last ball and the umpire goes upstairs - not a huge appeal. NOB appears to keep his foot on the ground. NOT OUT.
IRE 67 for 1
Over 10 - Wicket Muralitharan strikes the first blow for Sri Lanka with Porterfield chopping an edge to Sangakkara up at the stumps.
Andy White next in for Ireland. White is likely to try a few ambition shots but needs to get in before he can try anything fancy.
White survives an LBW shout and nearly pops another to the close-in fielder before he eventually gets one away to score. NOB survives last-ball LBW shout to finish a very good over for Sri Lanka.
IRE 60 for 1
Over 9 Mathews back into the attack and NOB comes down the wicket but mistimes his shot and retreats back to safety.
NOB hits a Dilshan special and runs two to bring up the fifty partnership.
Meanwhile, Eoin Morgan watches on in his lovely new, shiney England kit from the balcony as NOB attacks Mathews and cracks a fine four to give his former teammate something to think about.
Another four for NOB as he slashes one over the keeper's head.
If Ireland win and England lose tonight, then Phil Simmons' side will have stayed in the competition longer than the hosts. Still a lot of cricket to play before that happens though.
Good over for the Irish scoring ten from it.
IRE 59 for 1
Over 8 - Muralitharan's turn to try and take a wicket. NOB flicks one away and hobbles down the track to leave it to Porterfield.
Porterfield returns the favour with both batsmen looking unfazed by the Smiling Assasin.
Five off the over without a threat of losing a wicket - nice reverse sweep by NOB just to finish off the over and get back on strike.
IRE 49 for 0
Over 7 - Mendis back into the attack and Ireland have to be happy not to have lost a wicket at this stage.
Tight straight bowling from Mendis but then NOB loses patience and respect for the new bowling sensation and slogs one away for four. Goo
IRE 44 for 0
Over 6 - Malinga in now - the Irish won't ever have faced deliveries like this with his slinging action.
O'Brien goes down at the non-strikers end - physio on to look at the right ankle. Looks to be in severe pain but should be fine with some more strapping on it. Might get a runner out for him.
Strapping covered up with an ankle brace as the physio tries to get O'Brien's shoe back on. The little ginger fella is back on his feet and should be ok to resume. Five minute delay - hopefully the batsmen can find their rhythm. That's R.H.Y.T.H.M - despite about four different versions being thrown at me here on the sportsdesk - cheers lads...
Porterfield smashes a four to help the rate and get the Irish back on track.
IRE 37 for 0
Over 5 - Here we go with the spin already - Mendis in to face O'Brien. Make or break time for the Irish. Steady on lads.
O'Brien flicks one away for a single to get Porterfield back on strike.
Porterfield survives a catch shout from Sangakkara behind the stumps - umpire not having it... some noise there but hard to call.
IRE 32 for 0
Over 4 - O'Brien charges down to meet the pace head on and smashes a great shot which was well fielded to stop a certain boundary.
Porterfield hits a gap on the offside to hit four and then a sneaky boundary down the legside to finish the over with another four.
IRE 29 for 0
Over 3 - O'Brien eventually receives a delivery after two overs.
Porterfield back on strike after a single by NOB and lifts a very ambitious flick to run three.
NOB gets in on the action and smashes a boundary over the field and the ball runs down to the rope for four. Good over for the Irish with both batsmen getting a start.
IRE 19 for 0
Over 2 - Kulasekara to Porterfield to start the second over. A bit of movement off the pitch but very little swing all day at Lords.
Swing and a miss for Porterfield as he tries to make some room for himself.
Connects with fifth ball and lifts over the covers for four.
Great running by Porterfield to take two from the last ball.
IRE 11 for 0
Over 1 - Niall O'Brien and William Porterfield to open the batting. Mathews first with the new ball. Three dot balls to start. Porterfield slashes at the fourth but another dot ball.
First boundary off the fifth ball as Porterfield hits over the field to score four and finishes over with a quick single.
IRE 5 for 0
3.00pm - Ireland restrict Sri Lanka for 144 with only Jayawardene punishing the attack. Can the Irish push past the very gettable total? It will take at least one great innings to guide Phil Simmons back into this tournament. Can Niall O'Brien maintain his form and see the Irish home or can brother Kevin repeat the heroics of the Bangladesh innings.
Over 20 Wicket Wicket - Cusack back with a bang and bowls Mathews with his second delivery. Malinga 'the slinger' next in.
Cusack having a blinding spell with the ball. Great fielding from the Irish as well to back up the bowling.
O'Brien having as good a day as Cusack as he stumps Muralitharan. O'Brien appeals for a catch first then stumping.
New batsman Mendis almost caught on the boundary but Kevin O'Brien drops over the ropes. That boundary could make the difference and prevents Cusack getting a five wicket haul. Cusack finishes with 4 for 18.
SL 144 for 9
Over 19 - Wicket Rankin back - Kulasekara next man in to try to score.
Another wide for Rankin gives an extra run and ball. Can Ireland keep it below 150?? Last over against Bangladesh was costly - hopefully the Irish can keep it tight.
And no sooner said than done - Mooney dives full length to make a fantastic catch. Kulasekara walks. Muralitharan next in.
Mathews finishes with four and a single while Rankin finishes with impressive 2 for 27.
SL 137 for 7
Over 18 - Wicket Wicket Cusack starts with a nice dot ball - borderline wide not given.
Mubarak tries to smach Cusack but skies it to the leg side. NOB signals it is his and easily paws the catch.
Mathews next man in.
Cusack gets the big scalp as Jayawardene swings and misses as the ball crashes through the middle stump
Great over from Cusack only four scored and two wickets.
SL 128 for 6
Over 17 - West back in and keeps it tight for first few deliveries but gets hit for two fours to finish. Expensive over for Ireland with three overs to go.
SL 124 for 4
Over 16 - McCallan back on the attack. Loving his pause before delivery balls. Like the Johnny Aldridge penalties of yesteryear. Sky Sports commentators loving it as well and they seem very impressed with NOB's keeping. Stump microphones are great addition to the coverage - O'Brien's accent gets more and more English as the Ashes approaches.
Jayawardene still playing a great innings and punishes McCallan with a great boundary.
SL 111 for 4
Over 15 - West gets another chance after McCallan's success. Dot ball off the first delivery and a wide before another great dot ball. Much better from West. Only four off the over as Sri Lanka push past 100.
SL 101 for 4
Over 14 - Wicket Ireland need to get rid of Jayawardene who looks very comfortable. McCallan looking for another but nice reverse sweep by Silva pushes the score on.
Silva tries another ambitious shop and Rankin catches on the deep backward square boundary. Another great over by McCallan. Mubarak next man in.
SL 97 for 4
Over 13 - Kevin O'Brien hit for four off his first ball. Fifty for Jayawardene off 33 balls. Another boundary off the next delivery. Caressed away past third man.
Better finish by O'Brien with only one off the last four balls - nine off the over.
SL 92 for 3
Over 12 - Wicket McCallan shouts for LBW but not entertained - Sri Lanka run three but then McCallan strikes with another acurate delivery. Jayasuriya tries to slog but misses and the finger goes up and the opening batsman must walk. Silva next batsman in as Jayasuriya still looks upset on the bench.
SL 83 for 3
Over 11 - West taken off as Cusack bowls his first over of the day. Starts with a nice dot ball followed by some great work in the field by the ever-reliable Porterfield for another dot ball.
Bah - smashed away for six off the next delivery as Jayawardene shuffles across the crease to guide it high and into the stand.
O'Brien shouts for a stumping off the next delivery but umpire not having it. Another run-out opportunity but Irish field cannot capitalise.
SL 74 for 2
Over 10 - McCallan into attack for some right arm off-spin. Great crowd in the home of cricket and the sun is beating down - perfect conditions for players and beer guzzlers alike.
Jayasuriya picks up a loose one on the leg side and smashes for four. Fifty partnership for Jayasuriya and Jayawardene off 37 deliveries. 10 off the over. Rate up to 6.7 per over. Still not a bad total from an Irish point of view at the half-way stage in the Sri Lanka innings.
SL 67 for 2
Over 9 - Jayawardene smashes over extra cover for four and follows up with two twos. Sri Lanka push past fifty. Poor over for Ireland. West getting hit all over the ground. O'Brien tries to cajole the big man for his last delivery.
SL 57 for 2.
Over 8 - TJ in to finish his four overs. Opens the over with some shocking fielding from Rankin as the ball trundles over the rope. Bambi on ice...
Another run out chance but Porterfield misses by an inch. A hit and he was out. Have Ireland got a run out yet in the tournament. Stato??
Slow ball from Trent punished down the leg side. Expensive over here as Johnston gets hit for 12 to spoil his figures.
SL 42 for 2
Over 7 - Regan West in to slow the pace. Great start with three dot balls to open. Niall O'Brien getting going behind the stumps chirping away.
Only two off the over - great start by the big left-arm spinner. Run rate less than five an over. Who'd have thought.
SL 30 for 2
Over 6 - Final over of the powerplay before the fielding restrictions are relaxed. TJ back on for his third over.
SL run four after some sloppy fielding. Big swing and a miss as Jayawardene tries to score. Another beauty by Johnstone beats the bat. Irish still have two slips in place and Sri Lanka not enjoying this spell from the former skipper.
Great over - five dot balls from TJ and with the powerplay over, Sri Lanka will have to be a bit more agressive. Four off the over.
SL - 28 for 2
Over 5 - Four of the first delivery as Rankin bowls too full and Jayasuriya punishes him. Next two are more Rankin's normal back of a length balls and no score from them.
Slight chance of a run out from a diving West but misses the stumps.
Jayasuriya uses the feet well to get around the next delivery to smash through the covers for four. Much better from the Sri Lankans.
SL 24 for 2.
Over 4 - Wicket Trent starts with another dot ball - very disciplined start for the Irish attack. LBW shout from the second delivery. Sangakkara the new batsman shuffled across the crease and was very far up the pitch so probably a bit high.
Next delivery is a peach and Sangakkara chops at one straight into the gloves of Niall O'Brien who was right up on the stumps. Great delivery and a better catch.
Jayawardene next in and lets the first delivery go past for a dot ball. And another. And another. Shaky stuff here from the Sri Lankans. Two off the over and a wicket.
SL 14 for 2
Over 3 - Boyd back and nearly gets Jayasuriya at short fine leg but the ball doesn't carry to Andre Botha. Rankin's face is all green - is it some kind of war paint or specially commissioned sunblock. Maybe he's going for the Jolly Green Giant look or is it more incredible hulk.
Another good over apart from a wide down the leg side. It's all ones and twos for Sri Lanka.
SL 12 for 1
Over 2 - Trent Johnston opens from the other end and starts with a poor delivery going wide down the leg side. Good recovery with a dot ball from the next ball, followed by another. Much better TJ.
Good over in the end despite the opening wide. Three off the over.
SL 7 for 1
Over 1 - WICKET - An easy one off the first ball before the magic man Dilshan comes out swinging and mis-hits Rankin's second delivery. The ball is skied and Niall O'Brien makes the ground to collect easily. Dilshan out for a duck.
Jayasuriya back on strike for the remainder of the over and cracks one through the covers to settle the nerves. Great over for Rankin - four off the over and a wicket to boot.
SL 4 for 1
1.28pm - A bizarre rendition of Ireland's Call booms out of the Lords loudspeakers - no words but plenty of uh-ah chanting throughout. Hopefully that is the last time the Irish players look bemused today. Dilshan and Jayasuriya ready to go and looks like Boyd will open the bowling.
1.25pm - Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. The Irish will need to attack the pace bowlers because the rate is likely to slow right down once the spin kings are unleashed after six or so overs... Who will open for the Irish. Wilson is out and so is Connell. Will John Mooney be bumped up the order. 1.15pm - It's last chance saloon for Phil Simmons' boys at Lords this afternoon if Ireland are to have any chance of qualifying for the T20 semi-finals.
Anyone who remembers the last time the two sides met in Grenada in Ireland's last match at the 2007 World Cup will fear for the Irish as they were taught a lesson getting skittled for 90 runs or so.
But that was a fifty over game and the Irish were jaded after six weeks of gruelling cricket in the Caribbean. This time around the pitches should favour the Irish but can they work out how to play the likes of Malinga, Mendis and the mercurial Muralitharan? Here's hoping...
