Ireland coach Phil Simmons is hoping his team can discover the key to consistency in time for the start of their World Twenty20 campaign next week.
Simmons saw Ireland lose by nine wickets to his native West Indies on Tuesday - and in preparation for today's extra warm-up match against South Africa at Southgate, he added an hour to yesterday's net session.
Ireland spent their time concentrating on batting, and in particular each individual's best scoring areas in the shortest form of the game.
'We haven't had too many opportunities to work on really hitting the ball in the nets, because there have always been lots of people around,' former West Indies all-rounder Simmons explained.
'My main focus was to get the guys to find their areas when batting.
'All the players have different strengths, and I was getting them to find out the shots and areas that work best for them.
'It was a good session, and I could see improvements from them. Not all the players have the power to strike sixes all the time, so it was about them finding their range and their areas for getting boundaries on the board.'
Simmons was naturally disappointed by the Windies defeat - in which Chris Gayle was at his destructive best with the bat - but he has seen enough to remain confident Ireland have the potential to cause some upsets in Nottingham next week.
Before facing Gayle and Co, Ireland beat Netherlands on Monday.
'We played well on Monday, but not so well against the West Indies at The Oval on Tuesday,' Simmons admitted.
'Everything hasn't come together yet - certain parts of the batting fired in the West Indies loss, while the bowlers did well in the Holland win. We hope, by Monday when we play Bangladesh (in our first group game), it'll all fit into place.'
Ireland's match against South Africa is set to start at 3.30pm and may be a 13-a-side fixture against opponents who yesterday beat Sri Lanka by six wickets at Lord's.
