Raich wins World Cup giant slalom

Benjamin Raich of Austria edged American Ted Ligety to win Sunday's World Cup giant slalom in Beaver Creek.

Raich won with a combined time of two minutes, 24.61 seconds.

He defeated Ligety, who led after the first leg, by a mere one-hundredth of a second.

Aksel Lund Svindal nearly completed a memorable treble but had to settle for third, 0.10 seconds behind Raich. The Norwegian won the downhill and super-G the last two days.

American Bode Miller failed to finish after skidding off the course in the second run.
