Ireland's Friends Provident Trophy clash against Sussex resulted in a washout at Hove earlier today.

Holders Sussex needed to win the game to stand a chance of squeezing into the top two in the Southern Conference with three games remaining.

The 'no result' means they have won just one match so far, while a second washout for Ireland doubles their points tally.

This was Ireland's second washout in two days after the abandonment of their match against Surrey at The Oval.

An attempt to clear the square was made in early afternoon after conditions briefly improved.

But more rain wrecked hopes of a match of ten or 15 overs being staged.
