Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe in Harare

A late batting collapse saw Zimbabwe slump to a 14-run defeat against Bangladesh in the third one-day international in Harare on Friday.

Set 229 for victory after good work by Shahriar Nafees (69) in the Bangladesh innings, the hosts were coasting along at 91 without loss - with Vusi Sibanda well set on 64 - before crashing to 214 all-out with two balls remaining in their 50 overs.

Sibanda and Terry Duffin laid a wonderful platform for the hosts, but the latter's dismissal seemed to spark panic in the Zimbabwe ranks.

Abdur Razzak made the breakthrough for the visitors, tempting Duffin to dance down the wicket before being stumped by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim for 37.

And when Hamilton Masakadza (six) and Sibanda then departed in quick succession, the hosts were left struggling on 124 for three.

Sean Williams soon joined them back in the pavilion when he was run out for eight before wicketkeeper Brendan Taylor (13) fell in the same fashion to leave the hosts reeling.

Elton Chigumbura and Keith Dabengwa then began the rebuilding process, putting on 53 for the sixth wicket to give the home team hope.

However, Dabengwa was bowled by Tapash for 18 with the score on 202, and Chigumbura's subsequent dismissal all but ended the hosts' chances.

Chigumbura was caught by Aftab Ahmed off Mashrafe Mortaza for a valiant 33 before the two again combined to bring about the demise of skipper Prosper Utseya for nought.

Christopher Mpofu (three) and Gary Brent (seven) were the run out leaving Anthony Ireland (one) stranded in the centre as the Zimbabweans meekly conceded defeat.

Earlier, the tourists made a poor start to the day as Ireland snatched two quick wickets to remove Tamim Iqbal (five) and Aftab (ten), while then Chigumbura removed Saqibul Hasan for 11.

However, Nafees and Mushfiqur Rahim then put on a solid 100 in their fourth-wicket partnership to steady the wobbling Bangladeshi ship.

Rahim went for 42 with Williams taking the catch from Brent, while Nafees departed soon afterwards, caught by Vusi Sibanda.

Habibul Bashar (31) and Mortaza (29) also made useful contributions for the tourists while tail-ender Tapash Baisya finished unbeaten on 18.

One wicket was left standing as the Tigers closed on 228 for nine, while Ireland's figures of three for 53 made him the pick of the Zimbabwe attack.

Bangladesh now lead the four-match series 2-1, with the final game set to take place in Harare on Saturday.
