Vaughan hit by another injury

Michael Vaughan is sidelined once again

England captain Michael Vaughan will miss Friday's Commonwealth Bank Series contest with Australia due to a torn left hamstring.

Vaughan suffered the injury in yesterday's victory over New Zealand in Hobart, only his second one-day international appearance after 18 months out with a career-threatening knee injury.

It is still unsure how long the grade one tear will sideline the 32-year-old and a reassessment is due to take place in the next 48 hours.

The tour management will now have to decide who takes over at the Gabba - Andrew Flintoff was at the helm for the 5-0 Ashes Test series defeat but Andrew Strauss may assume the role amid concerns over the all-rounders workload.

Vaughan is expected to stay in Australia to continue planning for the World Cup whatever the updated diagnosis on his absence, with an announcement on the new captain expected later today.

Essex's Ravi Bopara joins up with the squad this evening while Mal Loye, Lancashire's explosive opener, is flying in as cover from New Zealand.
