Jacques Kallis claimed three wickets for as many runs as South Africa sealed a comprehensive 157-run victory against India in the second one-day international in Durban.
All-rounder Kallis, who scored a magnificent 119 not out to help the hosts to a total of 248 for eight earlier in the day, got in on the act with the ball as the tourists were made to rue their decision to bat first at Kingsmead.
Only Sachin Tendulkar (35) provided any notable resistance to an impressive South African seam attack.
Shaun Pollock (two for 17) dismissed Wasim Jaffer before the Indians had a run on the board, and then quickly removed Mohammad Kaif for eight with the score on 39.
Charl Langeveldt's solitary wicket was the crucial dismissal of India skipper Rahul Dravid, who was clean bowled by a ball that nipped back off the seam.
The impressive Andre Nel (four for 13) then accounted for Tendulkar and Suresh Raina, before having the dangerous Mahendra Singh Dhoni caught for 14 runs by wicketkeeper Mark Boucher.
Kallis struck next, quickly removing both Dinesh Mongia and Harbahjan Singh for singles, before Nel produced a vicious delivery that caught Zaheer Khan's outside edge and was pouched by Boucher.
Fittingly it was left to Kallis to finish proceedings when he bowled Ajit Agarkar for six with the first ball of the 30th over.
Earlier in the day Kallis had thrilled the home supporters with 15 fours in his 159-ball knock,
The hosts got off to the worst possible start when Graeme Smith was trapped leg before wicket by Khan for one.
Kallis then joined Loots Bosman and the pair added 44 runs before Zaheer trapped the opener lbw for 22.
Herschelle Gibbs was next to go, but an 87-run partnership ensued between AB de Villiers (41) and Kallis before the former was stumped by Dhoni off Mongia.
Boucher then added a rapid 23 off 21 balls, before he was caught by Zaheer at deep cover trying to launch Patel out of the ground, leaving South Africa five down for 196.
Justin Kemp (8) and Pollock (0) helped the visitors get back into the game as they both perished to Ajit Agarkar in the 46th over.
A fine 12-ball 22 by Nel then lifted the hosts to a strong position, before he was run out by Agarkar with the last ball of the innings.
Patel was the pick of the bowlers for India, claiming two for 39, while Zaheer (two for 53) and Agarkar (two for 47) were also among the wickets.
Victory for South Africa gives them a 1-0 lead with two games remaining in the series.
