The Irish Cricket Union today announced the appointment of Warren Deutrom as the new chief executive of Irish cricket.
Deutrom is currently working as Cricket Events Manager of the International Cricket Council, and is well known to Irish cricket, having been director of last year's successful ICC Trophy, which was held at some 30 venues throughout Ireland.
He was previously Marketing, Communications and Events Manager of the England & Wales Cricket Board.
He first worked with Irish cricket in staging the sell out World Cup game between the West Indies and Bangladesh at Clontarf in 1999.
Dr Murray Power, chairman of the Irish Cricket Union, said today: 'Warren brings a wealth of experience of cricket administration, and we look forward to Warren progressing our Strategic Plan. This is a crucial period in Irish cricket, with our forthcoming World Cup and League participation, and we are confident that he is the ideal candidate to lead us to even greater success.'
Warren said of his appointment: 'Having worked closely with the ICU on two successful projects in recent years, I am delighted to be returning to Ireland in this capacity.
'Ireland is the 13th ranked nation in what is the world’s second most popular sport, so it’s an exciting time for the cricket here. I look forward enormously to the challenge of helping the Irish game to move forward at all levels.'
He added: 'Part of that challenge will be in the marketing and commercial areas of the business, to help cricket to continue to grow its profile, and to ensure that the sport enjoys the success off the pitch it is currently enjoying on it.'
