India batted out the final few overs of the second Test for a draw in the seventh highest-scoring match in Test history after bowling a reduced Pakistan line-up out for 490 in Faisalabad today.
The sides set a new mark for sixes in a match, with 27, in compiling the seventh-highest runs aggregate in a Test match ever, with 1,702.
India, who made 603 in the first innings, were set a target of 476 after skittling Pakistan, who were reduced to nine batsmen in the absence of injured captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik, whose father died on Wednesday.
Vangipurappu Laxman (8) and Rahul Dravid (5) safely saw the visitors through to the close of play accumulating 21 runs on the way.
Younis Kahn (194) and Mohammad Yousuf (126) had added the 11th and 12th centuries of the series as Pakistan built up another huge total to add to the 588 they made in the first innings.
The Indian bowlers had toiled all day for the single wicket of Kamran Akmal before finally making their breakthrough in the final session.
Yousuf was run out to leave the home side on 423 for three. Younis and Abdul Razzaq (32) put on 65 for the fourth wicket before Razzaq was caught by Laxman off Zaheer Khan to trigger a collapse and the last five wickets fell for just two runs.
Pakistan vice-captain Younis was six runs short of his double century when Rudra Pratap Singh trapped him leg before wicket. Zaheer took the other four wickets in 10 balls to finish with figures of 4-61.
The first Test in Lahore also ended drawn and another lifeless track always made a positive result for either side unlikely. The third and final Test starts in Karachi on Sunday.
