Australia ended day one of the second Test against West Indies in Hobart just 89 runs behind with 10 first-innings wickets in hand.
Veteran paceman Glenn McGrath picked up four for 31 from 23 superb overs as the West Indies were skittled for 149 just after tea at the Bellerive Oval.
Only opener Chris Gayle (56) and captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul (39) offered any real resistance for the visitors.
Gayle hit seven fours and two huge sixes - one of them one-handed over midwicket - in a belligerent knock, but he had other problems to deal with than just the Australian bowlers, as he was forced off the field before lunch with heart palpitations.
Gayle was cleared to return to the crease after lunch, but he was unable to halt the Australian juggernaut, as Brett Lee and Stuart MacGill backed up McGrath by claiming three wickets apiece.
The West Indies' main hope of a big total, Brian Lara, was only able to contribute 13 runs before he was trapped lbw by Lee.
In reply, Australian openers Matthew Hayden (31 not out) and Mike Hussey (26no) put on 60 relatively untroubled runs on what looks to be an excellent Test wicket.
