Sri Lanka secured a 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh today and move to the top Pool B of the World Cup. The Sri Lankans needed just 21.1 overs to surpass the lowly 124 scored by their Asian opponents in an extremely one-sided contest at waZulu-Natal's picturesque City Oval.
Openers Marvan Atapattu and captain Sanath Jayasuriya wasted no time as they tore into some ordinary bowling to ensure an early drive back to their hotel. Atapattu finished 69 not out whilst Jayasuriya finished unbeaten on 55.
The Sri Lankan left armer Chaminda Vaas took three wickets with the first three balls bowled in the match and for good measure he took another wicket by the end of the first over. He ended up with figures of six for 25 wickets in a very one sided match.
Bangladesh were all out for 124 with the Sri Lankans exceeding that target in just 21.1 overs.
The defeat however leaves Bangladesh in dire straits, coming soon after their shock loss to Canada earlier this week.
