England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has been sent home from his country’s tour of Australia after failing to shrug off a persistent groin injury.
‘We`ve had a very difficult decision to make, and it is disappointing for us and him. But Andrew is going to go back to the UK in the next couple of days to try and get this thing sorted out for the World Cup,’ confirmed coach Duncan Fletcher.
‘He is simply not making any progress at the moment. He has been checked out in Australia, and no one out here could find a problem,’ he added.
Flintoff has played only two first-class matches on tour since undergoing a double hernia operation last August. He will now receive treatment to his groin injury in a bid to be included in England`s final 15-man squad for the World Cup, which has to be submitted to the ICC by December 31.
