Australian paceman Jason Gilespie is rated as doubtful to make the start of the Ashes series against England next month. Gillespie injured himself in his country's first Test win over Pakistan in Colombo on Monday when he tore a muscle in his right calf and is expected to be out of action for up to a month.
The first Test of the five-match Ashes series gets underway in Brisbane on November 7, and Australian team physiotherapist Erroll Alcott admitted that the 27-year-old's chances of making that game are very slim.
Despite being ruled out of Australia's remaining two Tests against Pakistan, Gillespie will remain with the Australian squad for about a week so that Alcott can oversee his initial treatment. His replacement for those games is the uncapped Western Australian paceman Brad Williams.
