New Zealand crush Bangladesh

Bangladesh were bowled out for 77 as they crashed to a 167-run loss to New Zealand in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy on Monday. Chasing 245 for victory, Bangladesh were dismissed in 19.3 overs with only four players reaching double figures.

It was the fifth time in 55 one-day internationals that Bangladesh had failed to reach three figures. It took the tenth-wicket pair of Manjural Islam and Talha Jubair to take the side past the lowest total in their history, 76 against Sri Lanka on the same Sinhalese Sports Club ground in August.

Pace bowlers Shane Bond (four for 21), Jacob Oram (two for 32), Kyle Mills (two for 13) cashed in on some tentative batting, with seven batsmen falling to catches behind the wicket.

New Zealand made 244 for nine after being put in by Bangladesh captain Khaled Mashud. Mathew Sinclair top-scored with 70 and he was the only New Zealand batsman to come to terms with a slow, turning pitch.

The win ensured New Zealand finish second in pool one, above Bangladesh but behind Australia, who face Sri Lanka in the second semi-final of the competition on Friday.

South Africa play India in the first semi-final on Wednesday.
