Michael Vaughan failed in his attempt to complete the maiden double hundred of his career in England's crucial final Test against India.
Vaughan, who started the morning's play on 182, fell five runs short of the milestone when he edged the ball from Zaheer Khan behind and into the hands of wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra. England appeared to crumble then as John Crawley, Nasser Hussain and Alec Stewart all walked back to the pavilion with the minimum of fuss.
However, Dominic Cork's half century stopped the rot as he shared important partnerships of 62 with Alec Stewart and 31 with Ashley Giles to leave England 515 for all out. In reply, India were 66 for one when bad light halted play.
