England complete 170-run win over India

England completed a 170-run win over India on the final day of the first test at Lord's on Monday by dismissing the visitors for 397 in their second innings. India, set 568 to win the first game of the four-match series, had resumed at 232 for six.

Vangipurappu Laxman took his overnight score of 38 to 74 with nine boundaries before he was caught by Michael Vaughan at cover off the second ball of Simon Jones's second spell of the morning. Ajit Agarkar, who helped Laxman add 126 runs for the seventh wicket, held up matters by completing a maiden test century, finishing on 109 not out. Matthew Hoggard ended with four wickets.
