New Zealand all out for 147

Matthew Hoggard was the hero for England on the second day of their opening test against New Zealand in Lancaster Park. The Yorkshire fast bowler finished with seven for 63 - England's best Test figures since Andrew Caddick claimed seven for 46 against South Africa in Durban two years ago.

His efforts, which eclipsed his previous best first-class figures of six for 51 for Yorkshire against Essex at Scarborough last summer, enabled the tourists to dismiss New Zealand for 147 in only 51.2 overs to establish an 81-run lead.

That advantage had been extended to 144 by the close when bad light ended play with England on 63 for two from 15.3 overs with the weather having wiped out 28 overs from the second day.
