England level one-day series

England levelled the series by claiming a 33-run victory in today's rain-affected fourth one-day international against New Zealand under the lights at Eden Park. Three different stoppages resulted in the umpires reducing the match to a 40-overs contest and gave New Zealand a target of 223 determined by the Duckworth-Lewis method of calculation after the tourists had reached 193 for six at the end of their innings.

And despite a battling 58 from 56 balls by Chris Cairns, New Zealand were always on the back foot and were dismissed for 189 in 38 overs. Andrew Flintoff was the pick of England's bowlers with four for 17 from his seven overs. Graham Thorpe and Michael Vaughan top-scored for England with 59.
