Brian Lara dislocated his elbow after colliding with Marvan Atapattu during the West Indies' eight-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka in today's one-day international in Kandy. Lara, who had made 24 from 29 balls, collapsed to the floor screaming following the clash and had to be stretchered off. He was then airlifted to a hospital in Colombo as it was feared he also had fractured his arm in the incident. However, these fears later proved unfounded.
"Brian Lara is resting comfortably in the hospital, still somewhat under the anaesthetic, and has a dislocated elbow on his left arm. There is no break and he has been advised to have his arm in a cast for no less than two weeks, then a determination would be made as to his ability to have physiotherapy. As of now, there are no plans of sending him home," explained West Indies manager Ricky Skerritt, who accompanied the former Windies captain to the hospital.
It is the second injury blow this year for the 32-year-old as he was also forced to leave the tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya with a hamstring problem in June. It now remains to be seen if he will be fit enough for the upcoming series against Pakistan, New Zealand and India.
