Brian Lara, having been missed twice, was dismissed for 21 to boost Zimbabwe's victory hopes in the triangular limited overs series day-night match against West Indies today. After 15 overs, West Indies were 65 for two, with opener Sherwin Campbell unbeaten on 37 and Marlon Samuels on two, as they chased Zimbabwe's 240 for nine off 50 overs.
Lara escaped on 12 when he edged a delivery from Zimbabwe skipper Heath Streak to Stuart Carlisle, who dropped the catch at second slip. Lara gave another chance in Mluleki Nkala's first over when he was dropped in the slips by Alistair Campbell. He celebrated with a slash over cover for four next ball but hit the following delivery to Dirk Viljoen at backward point.
Earlier, opener Campbell was top scorer for Zimbabwe with 81, sharing a third wicket stand of 86 with Andy Flower (33) before four wickets tumbled for 20. That slump reduced the African side to 174 for six but they managed a late flourish as Streak lashed an unbeaten 34 off 28 balls and Gavin Rennie hit 29 off 39 deliveries.
Australia won the opening match of the series on Thursday when they beat West Indies by 74 runs in Melbourne.
