The South African Captain Hansie Cronje is at the centre of match rigging allegations. A tape that came to light during the week has alleged telephone conversations between Cronje and Indian business man Sanjiv Chawla recorded on March 14th 2000 before the third one-day international between India and South Africa. Cronje and three of his teammates, Nico Boje, Herschelle Gibbs and Pieter Strydom, are being currently investigated.
Friends and family of Cronje are claiming the tape is a hoax designed to soil the South African captain's good name. Cronje has always been noted for his fierce commitment and will to win.
