There is an interesting change to the Gala senior championship format for 2009, with the structure reverting back to two groups of four to be played in a round-robin system.

The top two teams from each section will qualify for the semi-finals of the O’Duffy Cup.

The 2008 championship saw just one group of seven with each county playing one another.

All-Ireland champions Cork will have home advantage against Dublin in their opening round game, while most camogie fans will have a keen eye on newcomers Clare in their first outing in senior ranks after their memorable victory over Offaly in the All Ireland junior final.

The Banner ladies, who were crowned junior champions for the first time in over 20 years after losing three finals, will cross the border into Connacht where they face a tough championship opener against beaten All Ireland senior finalists Galway.

Group One: Tipperary, Kilkenny, Cork, Dublin.

Group Two: Galway, Clare, Limerick, Wexford.

Meanwhile, March 1 signals the commencement of the National senior league. Again, similar to the championship format, two groups will vie for honours.

Group One (First round matches): Kilkenny v Dublin, Tipperary v Clare.

Group Two (First round matches): Wexford v Cork, Limerick v Galway.

February 1 is the start date for all Division 3 & 4 leagues.
