The Ulster camogie team took their first Gael Linn Senior Interprovincial success since 1967 following victory over Leinster in the final at Blanchardstown.
The Northern girls were impressive throughout this competition and recorded a 2-12 to 3-08 win over Leinster with two second half goals from Antrim’s Jane Adams ensuring Ulster paved the way.
Despite scoring a goal Leinster trailed by 0-11 to 1-04 at the interval and it was the good work of Adams, Derry duo Sinead Cassidy and Katie McAuley, along with Down players Fionnuala Carr and Moya McGinn, which resulted in this historic victory.
Earlier Ulster had a 4-09 to 2-10 semi-final win over Munster, while Connacht did not take part in the championship.
Derry’s Claire Doherty was the victorious captain, while Jane Adams picked up the Player of the Tournament award.
Meanwhile, Leinster’s Junior side made amends for the loss by their Senior counterparts with a 3-16 to 0-11 win over Munster.
Leinster held a 1-06 to 0-07 interval lead, but were very impressive after the restart, with Laois’s Louise Mahony outstanding, scoring 1-10, also scooping the Player of the Tournament award.
But Leinster’s success was far from a one player operation, with Kilkenny duo Anne Farrell and Pauline Comerford along with Westmeath’s Pamela Greville and Meath’s Lizzy Lynch and Jane Dolan also making vital contributions.
Waterford’s Áine Lyng was the star of the show for Munster with eight points, while Sharon McMahon and Sally Anne O’Grady were also among the scorers.
