Next month's Foras na Gaelige All-Ireland Final on September 15th will be between old rivals Cork and three in a row All-Ireland champions, Tipperary, following their respective semi-final wins over Galway and Kilkenny in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick at the weekend.
National League Champions Galway, considered by many for a Croke Park visit this season, disappointed a lot of people when they fell 4-12 to 0-05 to Cork, while Tipperary beat an equally disappointing Kilkenny side in the second semi-final 1-11 to 0-06.
Galway got off to a fine start with a Lourda Kavanagh point but while both sides played a tight twenty minutes, Cork hit the jack pot with less than five minutes to the break with goals from Emer Dillon and Fiona O'Driscoll. The second half saw Cork in complete control with further goals from O'Driscoll and Jennifer O'Leary, while Galway could only record one solitary point from substitute Orla Kilkenny.
Tipperary, who are going for a record four in a row titles, were a little slow off the mark with Caire Grogan knocking over her sides first point in the seventh minute, responding to the first score of the game which came from Kilkenny's Edel Maher. However, the tenth minute saw Kilkenny 'keeper Miriam Holland bring off a fine save only for Tipp's hungry fullforward Deirdre Hughes to crash the rebound to the net and gave the champions a lead of 1-01 to 0-02. It was a lead they never lost. The second half belonged to Tipperary and they never allowed Kilkenny see the goalposts.
