The Munster man has become first choice for Ireland over the last few seasons, equally comfortable as a lock or flanker.
Beirne goes on his second Lions tour after working his way into the matchday squad for the second two Tests against South Africa four years ago.
A Kildare native, Beirne was made captain of Munster at the start of this season.
He is a double URC winner, with Munster in 2023, and with Scarlets in 2017.
