Daina Moorehouse and Dean Clancy will fight for medals at the Boxing World Cup in Brazil after winning their respective last-16 bouts on Thursday.
Moorehouse was a 4-1 split-decision winner over Poland's Natalia Kuczewska in her 51kg bout, with the judges scoring it 28:29; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27, 29:28.
Moorehouse, who will face Alua Balikibekova of Kazakhstan in the quarter-final tomorrow evening, told Boxing Ireland: "I felt like it took me a while to get in to the fight, but I was up on the scorecards.
"The referee told us to box two or three times, but, it was all about patience today.
"Back in tomorrow, and each day I'll just get better, and better."
Clancy advanced on a split decision against Hugo Barron of Mexico, winning on a countback after he was deducted a point. The scorecard read: 28:28*, 26:30, 27:29, 29:27, 28:27.
"The first round, it took me a few minutes to get in to the groove with things, to find my range with him," said the 24-year-old Sligo man.
"I knew I was 3-2 down and I didn't panic. I came back in the second round and got it convincingly, and the third."
He will fight Brazil's Yuri Falcao tomorrow evening.
Patsy Joyce, in his last-16 55kg, fight, was knocked down twice and received two point deductions, in losing out to Tajikistan's Meroj Sufijonov on scorelines of 29:25; 29:25; 29:25; 29:26; 29:25.

Jenny Lehane bows out, despite a valiant performance in her 54kg quarter-final.
Up against fellow Paris Olympian, Serbia's Sara Cirkovic, the 5-0 win went to her opponent. Judges scored the bout 28:29; 28:29; 27:30; 28:29; 27:30.
Lehane's WBC Brazil journey included a unanimous decision win over Venezuela’s Diana Mastre.
There was no place in the quarter-finals for Louis Rooney, as he lost to Morocco's Issam Bensayar in the 50kg division yesterday. The unanimous call went 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30.
Disappointment also for Evelyn Igharo, with her 70kg last-16 elimination coming after a point deduction against Mexico's Citlallo Vanessa Ortiz. It was 4-1 in favour of the latter - 27:29; 27:29; 29:28; 27:29; 26:29.
