Daina Moorehouse and Dean Clancy both recorded wins at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil on Tuesday. However, Michaela Walsh exited the tournament in Foz do Iguacu.

Moorehouse was a resounding 5-0 winner of her last-16 bout against New Zealand's Ashley Belk in the 51kg division, with the judges scoring the fight 27:30, 27:30, 26:30, 27:30, 27:30 in favour of the 24-year-old.

The Wicklow pugilist next faces Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska on Thursday.

Speaking to Boxing Ireland after her bout, Moorehouse said: "I feel good. Happy to get the first one out of the way. The first one is always the toughest.

"From here, I'll just keep building on top of it and hopefully get better each time."

The 4′11″ Moorehouse found herself in the unusual position of facing a shorter foe, adding: "I actually think it's harder because I'm used to punching so high.

"My punches were actually going over her head. I think I'd rather box taller people."

Clancy is through to the last 16 of the 65kg division after a similarly dominant display against Romania’s Arun Nicu Tuboroiu.

Judges scored the bout 27:30, 28:29, 28:29, 28:29, 27:30 in a 5-0 verdict.

Walsh came out on the wrong side of another 5-0 result, with Alyssa Mendoza of the United States coasting through their last-16 clash in the 57kg division. Judges scored the bout 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30.

Irish eyes on Wednesday will be focused on the exploits of Jenny Lehane, Jude Gallagher, Evelyn Igharo and Louis Rooney.
